Whatcom Community College (WCC) students Nathalie Belmore and Vi Nguyen will be recognized by Washington State Gov. Jay Inslee for their academic accomplishments at the virtual All-Washington Academic Team ceremony on April 15. The All-Washington Academic Team recognizes the top students from each of Washington State’s 34 community and technical colleges. Both students will receive a $250 scholarship from KeyBank, plus additional transfer scholarship opportunities.
Nathalie is studying to be a computer and electrical engineer at WCC in Bellingham Washington. She leads WCC’s AWSEM Club (Advocates for Women in Science Engineering and Math) where she serves to help underrepresented student populations succeed in rigorous STEM courses and advocates for those who are traditionally underrepresented in STEM careers. She has also worked on campus as a math tutor and engineering peer mentor. In addition to her KeyBank scholarship, Nathalie is also this year’s recipient of the WCC Foundation Sherif Family Scholarship for Women in Engineering. Vi is an international student from Vietnam working on her transfer degree at WCC. She serves as an Associated Students of WCC senator, advocating for students and helping her peers meet, connect and engage with new people. Vi also serves as vice president for both the Phi Theta Kappa student honor society and the Vietnamese Student Association. She is interested in art and technology, and plans to eventually major in graphic design and minor in business. Vi is also a recipient of a WCC Foundation scholarship and will receive an additional $750 scholarship for her academic merit from the Washington State Employees Credit Union (WSECU).
The 2021 All-Washington Academic Team program is sponsored by Washington Association of Community and Technical Colleges, Washington State Association of College Trustees, State Board for Community and Technical Colleges, and Phi Theta Kappa, the International Honor Society of the Two-Year College.
Whatcom Community College in Bellingham, Washington is regularly recognized as one of the top 150 community colleges in the nation by the Aspen Institute.
