Join Sustainable Connections for their Spring Sandwich Showdown this April. Sandwiches are the bread and butter of a Northwest Washington spring. This classic meal is the perfect way to celebrate the season of fresh veggies and sunny days. Sustainable Connections is featuring the region’s top sandwiches for the culinary enjoyment and inspiration of all.
All throughout April, sandwich-lovers across the region will vote on their favorite sandwich. Will the quality of the bread be superior? Will the cheese and veggie combos outshine the competition? Or do some sandwiches simply have that je ne sais quoi?
The Sandwich Showdown will feature 18 local sandwiches, ranging from bagel-based creations to pasties to a sandwich mysteriously entitled “THE CREATION”, as concocted by the staff at Avenue Bread. Commitment to creativity and local food is part of what makes this region so special, and the Sandwich Showdown highlights all the ingenuity of our local chefs and restaurateurs.
“We can’t claim that eating a local sandwich will save the world,” Amy Vergillo, Sustainable Connections’ Communications Director, says. “But we can say that celebrating local restaurants – with a whimsical twist – and investing in our local economy makes a difference. We hope the Sandwich Showdown will inspire many picnics, as well as get folks out to try a new restaurant.”
The Sandwich Showdown will also feature sandwich-focused giveaways from local businesses, recipes highlighting local sandwich ingredients, and much more.
