Tony & Olivier Award-Winning Broadway Tour, Come From Away, Stops at Mount Baker Theatre for Two Nights

Mount Baker Theatre (MBT) is thrilled to announce the national tour of Come From Away, a Broadway musical based on the true story of the small town that welcomed the world. The show will make its Bellingham debut on the MBT Main Stage for a two-night performance run on Tuesday, October 29, and Wednesday, October 30.

Come From Away tells the remarkable true story of 7,000 stranded passengers and the small town in Newfoundland that welcomed them. Cultures clash and nerves run high, but uneasiness turns into trust, music soars into the night, and gratitude grows into enduring friendships.

On September 11, 2001 the world stopped. On September 12, their stories moved us all. Charles McNulty of the Los Angeles Times called Come From Away “an affecting, stirring and unpretentious new musical. Christopher Ashley's production lets the simple goodness of ordinary people outshine sensational evil.” Bob Verini of Variety raved, “Superb! Canadians Irene Sankoff and David Hein have forged a moving, thoroughly entertaining tribute to international amity and the indomitable human spirit.”

A “Best Musical” winner all across North America, this smash hit musical has won the Tony Award for “Best Direction of a Musical” (Christopher Ashley), four Olivier Awards (London) including “Best New Musical,” five Outer Critics Circle Awards (NYC) including “Outstanding New Broadway Musical,” three Drama Desk Awards (NYC) including “Outstanding Musical,” four Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards (North American Tour) including “Best Production,” four Helen Hayes Awards (D.C.) including “Outstanding Production of a Musical,” four Gypsy Rose Lee Awards (Seattle) including “Excellence in Production of a Musical,” six San Diego Critics Circle Awards including “Outstanding New Musical,” three Toronto Theatre Critics Awards including “Best New Musical,” three Dora Awards (Toronto) including “Outstanding New Musical/Opera” and “Outstanding Production,” and the 2017 Jon Kaplan Audience Choice Award (Toronto).

Come From Away features music and lyrics by Olivier, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Award winners, Grammy-nominated and two-time Tony Award nominees, Irene Sankoff and David Hein. The musical is directed by Tony Award winner and Outer Critics Circle Award winner, Christopher Ashley, with musical staging by Olivier Award winner and two-time Tony Award nominee, Kelly Devine. Music supervision is done by Olivier Award winner and Grammy Award nominee, Ian Eisendrath. The Come From Away tour is directed by Daniel Goldstein with musical staging by Richard J. Hinds, based on the original Broadway direction and choreography.

About Mount Baker Theatre

Mount Baker Theatre is a 501(c)(3) non-profit arts organization dedicated to enriching the region’s culture through dynamic performances, arts education, inspiring engagement in the community and stewardship of a national historic treasure. Located in the heart of downtown Bellingham’s Art District, MBT is the largest theatrical venue north of Seattle in Washington State. Built in 1927, MBT is the only survivor of the five original movie palaces built in Whatcom County between 1914 and 1930. The building itself is a beautifully restored architectural treasure, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Since opening day, MBT has been dedicated to showcasing top touring performing arts events, as well as presenting community-driven events and performances, to audiences in the North Puget Sound and the Lower Mainland of British Columbia.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
