Patrick Grubb, publisher of The Northern Light newspaper, and co-owner of Point Roberts Press, is pleased to announce the company received a record number of awards from the Washington Newspaper Publishers Association. Fourteen of the awards were first place finishes and were awarded in editorial, photography, advertising, special publication and website categories. Contest entries are judged by an out of state newspaper association jury of its peers.
Notably, it was awarded first prize in the state of Washington for its comprehensive Covid-19 coverage, inarguably the biggest story of the century, as well as first place for the state’s buzziest story, the Asian giant hornet.
Our annual coastal community guide, Waterside 2021, was awarded first place in tourism while Mount Baker Experience received two awards for excellence in design.
Digital excellence was also recognized for our websites: The Northern Light website was awarded first place in the newspaper category while the Mount Baker Experience and Waterside websites received second and third place in special interest websites.
The Northern Light was established in 1995 and serves the communities of Blaine, Birch Bay, Semiahmoo and Custer, the second largest population cluster after Bellingham according to the 2020 census. It is delivered by the U.S. Mail and offers advertisers effective, economic and independently audited circulation directly to all homes in the 98230 zip code. Circulation 10,500 copies.
