Sustainable Connections Honored as Best Nonprofit - Silver in Best of the Northwest

Sustainable Connections is thrilled to announce that they have been awarded the Best Nonprofit - Silver award in Bellingham Alive's Best of the Northwest 2024 contest. This recognition highlights Sustainable Connections’ past and ongoing commitment to advancing a regenerative local economy that builds community, strengthens food systems, catalyzes climate solutions, and expands access to housing in Northwest Washington. We’re honored to be in the company of two other amazing local nonprofits, Lydia Place (gold winner) and the Downtown Bellingham Partnership (bronze winner).

“We’re so excited to be recognized by our community,” said Derek Long, Executive Director. “This award is a reflection of the passion and dedication of our team, partners, and the incredible community members who inspire us every day.”

As Sustainable Connections celebrates this milestone, they remain dedicated to driving positive change across the Northwest by promoting sustainable practices, supporting local businesses, and engaging with their neighbors to build a more resilient future.

Thank you to everyone who voted and continues to support their mission!

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
