A new Eat Local First Washington Directory helps to connect Washington State residents with local farms and farmers markets in one place.
The Eat Local First WA Directory is a project of the Eat Local First Collaborative, a group of food system organizations from around the state working together to merge various online farm finder tools into a single easy-to-use platform; the Eat Local First WA Directory is the first step in that process to find local farms and food.
“We know in these unprecedented times that Washington State residents are looking for local farm products more than ever,” says Sustainable Connections’ Food & Farming Director Sara Southerland. “This comprehensive platform will connect you with local food, farms, and farmers markets, no matter where you live in Washington State.”
Washington State farmers produce over 300 varieties of products from apples to zucchini, cheeses, wine and locally-made beer, as well as hundreds of locally made value-added items that can be found on the website. With over 35,000 farms and 170 farmers markets across the state there is plenty to explore.
On the Eat Local First WA Directory, users can click to explore the food and farm maps in various regions across the state to connect with farms close to home or for a weekend of travel.
Users can also find features like Community Supported Agriculture (CSA, or local farm box) shares, Farmers Markets, online ordering and home delivery, and various other ways to connect with local farmers and food businesses.
By supporting Washington State farmers, consumers are building meaningful relationships with the people who grow their food, they are ensuring more dollars stay in our local communities, and they are supporting the health of our farmland for many years to come.
