Hovander Park in Ferndale Partial Opening

Effective immediately, Whatcom County Parks & Recreation is re-opening the Boat launch parking lot, the Nooksack River Trail, and the dog off-leash areas at Hovander Homestead Park. Trail subgrade and top surfacing has been repaired and the boat launch parking lot has been graded making these areas serviceable. While the restroom building remains closed for repair with the rest of the park areas not listed here, a portable restroom and handwash station has been placed at the boat launch parking lot for public sanitation.

Flood damage cleanup and repair efforts remain underway and we appreciate the public’s continued patience as we work to restore and reopen this beloved park. Full opening of the park is anticipated by mid-May.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
