Holiday Magic Arrives at The Mount Baker Theatre With Bellingham Symphony Orchestra

Bellingham Symphony Orchestra performs festive family classics!

On Sunday, December 11th, the Bellingham Symphony Orchestra's annual holiday concert will take the stage at the Mount Baker Theatre. Holiday Magic combines festive classics like Sleigh Ride and Silent Night with new favorites, including A Canadian Brass Christmas and Festive Sounds of Hanukah.

Guest Conductor James Ray will join the orchestra for this family-friendly concert.  An educator, conductor, and violinist, Ray teaches coursework in instrumental music education and music theory at Western Washington University and directs the WWU String Sinfonia.

A narration of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas will delight audiences of all ages. Narrator Richard Hodges is an award-winning Emerging Artist in the Institute for Young Dramatic Voices program. Dr. Hodges is a 2019 nominee for Best Lead in a Musical with the Las Vegas Valley Awards for his role in Gianni Schicchi with Vegas City Opera. His other recent roles include a Supporting Role in the revival of Anthony Davis’ X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X with Detroit Opera, Lawyer Frazier and Undertaker in Porgy and Bess with the Greensboro Opera Company, and the Preacher in Sweet Land with The Industry L.A. He currently serves as the Director of Voice Studies at Western Washington University.

Holiday Magic has become a tradition for the BSO and families across Whatcom County, and the December 11th concert marks the symphony's 7th annual holiday program.

"It's a magical time to bring orchestral music and holiday cheer to an audience of all ages, and this holiday season, we are extremely grateful to be able to perform this program in front of a live, in-person audience," explains Karen Bailor, Interim Marketing & Communications Manager. "There's nothing like experiencing live music, and this concert is such an incredible opportunity to share that experience with the entire family."

Holiday Magic is also the most affordable opportunity to attend a BSO concert and see the Mount Baker Theatre decked out in its holiday decor. Tickets start at just $10.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
