The Port is hosting a Marine Trades Job and Internship Fair this Thursday, May 19th from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fishermen’s Pavilion in Bellingham. Thirty-five different waterfront employers and resources are participating and registration is not required.
“Marine trades industries create or support over 6,000 jobs representing 7% of Whatcom County’s total workforce” said Port Executive Director Rob Fix. “The Port’s job fair will provide access to working waterfront employers from a wide variety of organizations and industries who are seeking hardworking and enthusiastic employees to fill available positions.”
Long-time waterfront employer Bellingham Cold Storage will be offering free boat tours of their facility from the job fair and providing information about a $2000 signing bonus. Trident Seafoods is offering free salmon jerky to people interesting in learning more about joining the marine trades workforce.
"Our young people grow up enjoying our marine waters with their families and friends -- either boating, fishing, or beach bumming” said Working Waterfront Coalition of Whatcom County Program Manager Deb Granger. “Yet, many of us do not have a clue that there are wonderful, exciting, and well-paying jobs right here on our shores or on our waters. We are grateful to the Port of Bellingham and others for hosting this Job & Internship Fair where young people can meet a few of these employers and learn about these jobs -- either summer jobs or even more long-term careers. We hope to see you at the bay on Thursday, May 19th in the new Waterfront Pavilion."
