Water Transport

There are many ways to travel to Bellingham, including right on the water!

Whatcom County is located on more than 100 miles of stunning Salish Sea shoreline. Make your way to this upper part of the Pacific Northwest on a boat or ferry. Once you've arrived, the adventures on the water only continue with kayak tours, whale watching, and visits to the San Juan Islands.

Bellingham is the southern port of the Alaska Ferry, which departs from the Bellingham Cruise Terminal in Historic Fairhaven Village.

The ferry makes its voyage through Alaska’s Inside Passage, stopping at numerous ports including Ketchikan and Juneau.

Visit The Alaska Marine Highway website to view the schedule, book tickets, and find more information.

Visit the islands with ease through trips offered by charter operators like San Juan Cruises, which departs out of the Bellingham Cruise Terminal, located in historic Fairhaven Village.

Find even more options through Outer Island Excursions and Island Opportunity Charters.

The ferry to Lummi Island departs Gooseberry Point on a regular schedule throughout the day. This is a first-come, first-served ferry, so make sure to check the departure time and get there early!

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
