First - some important historical context about Helles. Originating in 1894, Helles was the city of Munich’s response to the growing popularity of the Pilsner style across Europe. Spatenbräu was the first to brew it, but was quickly followed by other Munich breweries. Now the most consumed beer in the German state of Bavaria, Helles (which means “bright” in German) has quickly been gaining in popularity in the U.S.
Why is Helles so beloved? Because it is delicious in a subtle and nuanced manner (meaning it won’t destroy your palate), it is relatively low in alcohol (making it a great beer to have more than one of) and it pairs exceptionally well with many different types of food (to name just a few reasons). Some lean hop-forward, others malt-forward, but all strive to achieve the goals of extreme drinkability and exquisite balance.
Join us on February 22nd at Kulshan’s Roosevelt Taproom (K2) for a celebration of this exceptional beerstyle!
Come raise a glass with us for an evening of world-class Helles, live music, and great company.
Bright beers for dark winter nights. Prost!
