Kimberly Akimbo Unfolds for the Bellingham Theatre Guild’s Reading Series, December 2nd, at 2pm

LEND US YOUR EARS presents this heartwarmingly esoteric comedy that was the source of the 2023 Tony-winning musical for the Pay-What-You-Will play-reading series.

LEND US YOUR EARS, the reading series at the Bellingham Theatre Guild, unfolds the play Kimberly Akimbo, the esoteric comedy from David Lindsay-Abaire that spawned the latest Tony-winning Broadway musical.   Kimberly’s awkward challenges in a family that does the wrong thing for the right reasons performs on December 2nd, 2023, at 2pm.

The Pay-What-You-Will performance, directed by Les Campbell, follows Kimberly, a teenager who suffers from a disease that ages her rapidly; her dysfunctional parents who hide their denial in bad choices, self-harm, or drinking; her hilariously larcenous aunt; and the boy she likes who likes her back.  As Kimberly realizes time to live life fully is growing short, she’s driven to find a way to free herself from time-wasting and embrace the moments she has and the moments she needs.  Lindsay-Abaire’s wildly anarchic actions and vibrantly bizarre characters, which propel Kimberly Akimbo in comic and heart-felt ways, will be performed by talented local actors, and contains adult languages, and adult situations.  And is not, repeat NOT, the musical.

LEND US YOUR EARS (with the mission:  Good Plays Read Well) produces matinee readings with local actors in front of the curtains, with general admission seating and the audience choosing what it wants to pay.  No reservations necessary and any questions can be directed to LUYE Artistic Director, Sean Walbeck (sean@gigglewax.com, 360-647-9242).

KIMBERLY AKIMBO is presented by special arrangement with Broadway Licensing, LLC, servicing the Dramatists Play Service collection. [www.dramatists.com]

The Bellingham Theatre Guild is a volunteer theater that has been serving the Whatcom County community since 1927. More information about BTG can be found at www.bellinghamtheatreguild.com.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
