Mount Baker, or Koma Kulsan, is an iconic, glaciated stratovolcano located outside Bellingham, WA. You can spot the 10,781-foot mountain from various spots around Bellingham and surrounding Whatcom County, but here are a few places where the views are especially spectacular.
Artist Point is the terminus of Mount Baker Highway (SR 542). The area offers spectacular views in all directions, but the views of Mount Baker are especially grand. Get up close and personal with the mountain from the parking lot or any of the trailheads that lead off of it.
Artist Point is only open to vehicles seasonally so make sure to check the status before you go! Remember to bring a NW Forest Pass to park.
On a clear day, merely driving between Bellingham and Ferndale, WA on I-5 will deliver epic views of Mount Baker. Keep enjoying the views on foot at Hovander Homestead Park, where there are pleasant and flat walking trails, a historic barn, farm animals, a fragrance garden, and glimpses of the Nooksack River.
This relatively new nature preserve on Lummi Island offers up awe-inspiring views of Mount Baker. Photographs of the mountain are especially stunning here because they capture water in the foreground as well.
