"Going Green" in Bellingham has always been a reflection our core values. We're known for it. Our community started curbside recycling back in the day, created a Buy Local campaign that has been adopted around the country, leads in energy efficiency awareness and other green initiatives. We also like to get outside, dress up and get some exercise together. As much as possible it seems. On Saturday, March 12, Bellingham will come together for the 5K & 8K Runnin' O' the Green to celebrate our greenness. Fitness freaks, families and friends get out the green bling and put their smiles on to run from Boundary Bay to Boulevard Park, into Fairhaven, down Taylor Street dock and back to the finish at yes, the center of our universe- Boundary Bay Brewery. The fun is hosted by Bellingham Parks and Recreation and your MC for the day is the interminable Lance Romo. He's there to make sure you have a fun, safe time. Yes, it's a kilt. If you didn't get the chance to read his humor on the Runnin' O' the Green FAQ page, here's a taste: "Can I bring a dog?" "No, you can't bring a dog. No cats. No goats. Nothing with feathers and no ponies either. Non-croc/gator reptiles are OK." He may even have you raise your hands in a pledge before you start! More from Lance on the route: "What's the course?" "The best method to see the course would be to look at the Course Map The course is a combination of public roads and Bellingham Parks & Recreation crushed limestone paths. The roads will be secured with the help of Bellingham's finest, certified, flaggers, volunteers and a gorilla. If you have difficulty reading maps, this is a great opportunity for you! As an alternate solution you could follow the big white arrows and crowds of people. The tricky bit is where the 5K & 8K courses split. 5K - turn right at the gorilla. 8K - go straight at the gorilla." - Lance "Peace & Chicken Grease" Romo GO Green! May the Luck of the Irish be with you. See you at the START Line. As far as the Finish Line goes...There just happens to be a parade too!
