Explore the PNW: 10 great kayaking destinations

Kayaking is a great way to explore our region's lakes, rivers, and the Puget Sound. Whether you're a beginner trying your first paddle on a calm lake or a pro-kayaker adventuring in the waters of the Sound, there's a perfect spot for everyone. You can bring the kids along too, if you start out with a short trip and make sure each child has an experienced adult along. Make sure to check out these basic safety rules ALL kayakers should follow on every trip they take, whether on a quick paddle in the local lake or a multi-day adventure through the San Juan Islands.         We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
