The road to Artist Point (the final section of SR 542) and Highway 20 (starting at Ross Dam Trailhead) are both closed for the season.

Spring Birding on the Snow Goose

Come aboard the Snow Goose, a comfortable 65-foot vessel captained by Dan Liden, and explore the waters of Bellingham Bay, Lummi Island, and the surrounding areas with North Cascades Institute.

Naturalist guide Amanda Colbert will help identify the species we see and share insights into their natural history. Enjoy sightings of Salish Sea birds, marine mammals and spectacular views of Mount Baker, the Chuckanut Mountains, the Nooksack River estuary, Rosario Strait, and the San Juan Islands—all from our unique water-level vantage point!

We’ll meet at Squalicum Harbor in Bellingham at 8:30 a.m. With binoculars and field guides in hand, we’ll set out on our day’s adventure in search of as many avian species as we can find.

This trip runs rain or shine, and birders of all skill levels are welcome! Scholarships and Student, Military and Disability discounts are available! Call (360) 854-2599 for more info!

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
