Gale was an instrumental volunteer with the club from its inception in 1976 until he passed at the age of 79 on March 25, 2022. He was a genuine treasure to this community! His encouragement to runners of all abilities and ages has inspired us to create an event that he would love in his honor. Gale was a Bellingham High School and WWU hurdles record holder, local racer, master’s steeplechase and cross country champ and a big supporter of local high school and WWU track and cross country.

The Gale Pfueller Mile will be the featured event with at least three heats - Middle School, High School and Open mile.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
