WWU Department of Biology and WWU Entomology Club are hosting an Insect Collection Open House: Saturday, March 15 from 1:00pm-4:00pm in Biology Building Room 151 & 139. This event is free, family friendly, and open to the public.
View many of the 75,000 specimens that make up the largest public insect collection in Western Washington! You'll have the opportunity to see:
• Northern Giant Hornets (aka “Murder Hornets”) from the first nest discovered in the U.S., right here in Whatcom County! '
• Beneficial insects in the region, including a variety of pollinators
• Spectacular butterflies and beetles from the Pacific Northwest and far-flung places
• Fossils of insects that lived 50 million years ago
• Many of the giants among Pacific Northwest insects including Green Darner dragonfly, Giant water bug, and Western Giant Ichneumon wasp
