The road to Artist Point (the final section of SR 542) and Highway 20 (starting at Ross Dam Trailhead) are both closed for the season.

Intro to Making an Artist's Book

What the world needs now is random acts of beauty and kindness. Artist’s Books are a multidisciplinary way to document the diversity of our perspectives and experiences and transmute them into something powerful and sharable. In this workshop, you will learn about a selection of introductory book art forms. Additionally, we will explore some interesting ways paper can be folded that transform a square into a variety of intricate and interesting shapes and functions. After some short demos, we will work on some simple mock-up versions together.

There will be some basic book forms to work with and some more advanced folds for those with more experience (or anyone who loves a good brain challenge). Each participant will leave with their book mock-ups and a set of printed instructions for any of the forms that we worked on to take home.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
