The road to Artist Point (the final section of SR 542) and Highway 20 (starting at Ross Dam Trailhead) are both closed for the season.

Mixed Media Collage: Hibernation

In this one-day workshop, we will create an abstract mixed media collage piece based on the prompt, Hibernation (noun): The condition or period of an animal or plant spending the winter in a dormant state; an extended period of remaining inactive or indoors.

Using found and collected materials, magazine clippings, photos, elements of nature, textiles, ephemera, mod podge, and an array of art supplies including paint; students will delve into an intuitive, creative process, combining countless layers of depth and complexity. This combination of utilized items and our own art techniques will conjure up the feeling of hibernation to the viewer, however, this class is about the creative process and not the end result as tune-in with our artistic selves and pull out a truly unique and contemplative creation. Get your creative juices flowing!

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
