Wilderness Act Anniversary Chain Lakes Hike

Join the Mount Baker Sierra Club Group for a day hike into Mount Baker Wilderness on the Chain Lakes Loop trail. September marks the 60-year anniversary of the US Wilderness Act, and in honor of this occasion we're visiting one of Washington's most celebrated Wilderness Areas. This trail is rated as moderately challenging and involves an elevation gain of about 1,800 feet over 6.2 miles. The stunning views along the way make the trek well worth the effort! Be sure to bring sturdy hiking shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, a packed lunch and plenty of water for this hike. Please note you will need a Northwest Forest Pass or equivalent public lands pass to park at the trailhead. Meet by the Chain Lakes Trailhead at Artist Point.

This event is free and open to the public, but participants MUST register online and fill out a waiver here: https://act.sierraclub.org/events/details?formcampaignid=701Po00000KXx94IAD

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
