DIY Hand-Pressed Clay Tile Art

Come out to the Beauty Barn for this 2-week beginner workshop with expert tile maker, Amy Popelka and create your own hand-pressed works of art with pieces of nature. Join Amy Popelka with the Tac Tile Company as she leads us in creating our own beautiful tile art! No experience needed!!

In this hand building class, students will be able to make a series of handmade tiles with flowers or stamps pressed into them. Guided by expert tile maker, Amy Popelka, you will learn tips and tricks to making a beautiful floral wall hanging, or decorative table art that will have you remembering the colors of summer all year round. All materials will be provided for you, including string or wire to hang them up with.

Week 1: We will be using dried flowers, branches, sticks and whatever else you want to use to hand-press these clay tiles with your custom designs. Amy will take the tiles to be fired so they are ready for week 2!

Week 2: Glaze and finalize your custom tile art. Pickup at later date.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
