After seven years of exceptional leadership, the Downtown Bellingham Partnership (DBP) bids farewell to its esteemed Executive Director, Alice Clark, effective December 31, 2023. Clark's visionary guidance and dedication undoubtably contributed to downtown's recovery, building upon a remarkable 25-year history of contribution to the community. While her departure marks the end of a chapter, but not the end of her active involvement in Bellingham's growth and progress.
Alice Clark's journey in Downtown Bellingham has been characterized by remarkable accomplishments. A founding member of the Pickford Film Center, she helped build a cultural hub that has since become a fixture of Downtown’s identity. As Executive Director of the Downtown Bellingham Partnership, Clark continued her legacy of impactful leadership, navigating the organization through challenging times and building a tenured and skilled staff.
Under Clark's guidance, the DBP has been instrumental in the city's recovery, especially during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. From shifting gears and becoming a small business recovery resource, bringing back beloved community events like Downtown Sounds, and stepping into business advocacy for continued safety and public health solutions, the Downtown Bellingham Partnership is an established and trusted organization thanks to Alice Clark.
"While my time as Executive Director is coming to a close, I am far from retiring. I am excited to continue my community involvement and contribute to its ongoing development in new and meaningful ways," expressed Alice Clark.
As the organization begins a new chapter, Lindsey Payne Johnstone, the organization’s current Program Director with 15 years of service at DBP, steps into the role of Interim Executive Director. This seamless transition ensures the continued stability and momentum of the organization as the board and staff embark on the search for a new leader.
