Blue Skies for Children Announces the Appointment of 3 New Board Members

Blue Skies for Children is pleased to welcome three community members to its Board of Directors. Consisting of business and nonprofit leaders, the new board members bring years of experience and leadership to help the organization continue to evolve and grow.

The new board members include:

  • Mathew Roth (retired), former owner of Chuckanut Bay Foods
  • Lindsey Gerhard, Arts Director at Jansen Art Center
  • Marissa Sena-Sheley, Co-Owner of Cascade Asia Advisors

“We are fortunate to have this team of volunteers committed to providing guidance, stability and ambassadorship for the organization,” said Caprice Teske, Executive Director of Blue Skies for Children. “With a small staff, our organization relies heavily on our Board of Directors to identify opportunities, promote our programs, and make community connections.”

The three new members join existing board members Jamie Smeall (Avenue Bread and the Filling Station), Jessica Raymond (Bellingham Public Schools), Gladys Hyatt (retired – Moss Adams LLP), and Regan Wynn (bp).

Mathew Roth brings with him a wealth of business acumen. He co-owned Chuckanut Bay Foods for fifteen years. Upon selling the company, he went to work as a business advisor assisting other companies as they look to open new markets.

Lindsey Gerhad has over 10 years’ experience supporting non-profits and arts organizations in Whatcom County through communications, curation, event management, and project development. She is a passionate advocate for equitable access to the arts and is dedicated to supporting opportunities for enrichment activities for all children through her role as Arts Director at Jansen Art Center.

Marissa Sena-Sheley is an experienced executive and small business owner with over 20 years of diverse business experience. She is former director of human resources at TMobile’s headquarters, the former chief people officer of Mosaic Rehabilitation, and since 2012, has run a global research company with her husband.

Blue Skies for Children is still seeking 1-2 additional community members to round out its seven-person board. For more information visit https://www.blueskiesforchildren.org/become-a-board-member.html.

Established in 1997, Blue Skies was created out of a need in our local community. In 2002, Blue Skies became a 501(c)(3) and hired its first executive director. Its mission is to raise hope and self- esteem by sponsoring enrichment programs and other essentials for homeless, low-income and foster children in Whatcom and Skagit Counties.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
