Bellingham Named Among World’s Best Travel Destinations for 2025 by Popular Travel Guide

Travel Lemming names Bellingham to position #43 on its yearly list of the 50 best travel destinations in the world.

Travel Lemming, a US-based online travel publication read by more than 10 million travelers, today announced its list of the top 50 places to travel in the world for 2025. Bellingham, Washington was named the #43 best place to travel globally.

Today’s announcement is part of the publication’s annual list of 50 best places to travel. The project highlights the world’s best destinations and hidden gems.

The article calls Bellingham “a quirky and youthful city” and says it’s “defined by its youthful culture, historic district, and outdoor escapes.”

Becky Mandelbaum, Communications Manager for Visit Bellingham | Whatcom County commented: “We are beyond thrilled to have been chosen as one of Travel Lemming’s top 50 places to travel in 2025!”

Mandelbaum continued, “We love that people are continuing to discover our area’s amazing outdoor recreation—from mountain biking at Galbraith to hiking and skiing at Mount Baker—as well as the many museums, restaurants, theaters, and city parks that make it a great destination for all ages and interests.”

The best places to travel list is an annual collaborative project by the publication’s dozens of travel writers and editors. Travel Lemming’s local travel experts each nominate their favorite destinations which are then reviewed and voted on by the publication's editorial board.

  • #1 - Lombok, Indonesia

  • #2 - El Calafate, Argentina

  • #3 - County Kerry, Ireland

  • #4 - Yoho National Park, Canada

  • #6 - El Nido, Philippines

  • #7 - Kazbegi, Georgia

  • #8 - Exmouth, Australia

Chelsea Booker, Editor at Travel Lemming, commented: “I’ve taken numerous trips to Bellingham and always leave with a renewed appreciation for it. If I’m not being charmed by one of the city’s fresh and inventive businesses, then I’m being enchanted by the breadth of nearby outdoor activities.”

Travel Lemming is an online travel guide with over 10 million annual readers. It is known for its focus on encouraging travelers to go “off the lemming path.”

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
