BAAY’s State Street Theatre Company Presents: CATS

BAAY's State Street Theatre Company presents CATS on August 23-25 and August 30-September 1 at the BAAY Theatre. CATS is an iconic Broadway musical with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber. The Jellicle Cats come out to play on one special night of the year — the night of the Jellicle Ball. One by one they tell their stories for the amusement of Old Deuteronomy, their wise and benevolent leader, who must choose one of the Cats to ascend to The Heaviside Layer and be reborn into a whole new Jellicle life. Tickets and more info at baay.org

BAAY’s State Street Theatre Company (SSTC) is a program dedicated to the artistry and talent of our local youth ages 15-18. SSTC integrates more challenging material and aims to prepare musical theatre students for collegiate-level work, as well as empower them to understand the significance of their artistic expression. SSTC’s CATS is directed by Kaleb Van Rijswijck, with musical direction by Dylan Cisneros and choreography by Lisa Markowitz.

About BAAY: Founded in 2006, Bellingham Arts Academy for Youth (BAAY) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching children’s lives through the exploration of the arts. We believe that the arts are an essential component of education. We enroll over 1500 children ages 5-17 annually in our EduArts and Theatre programs, and provide over $40,000 per year in tuition waivers to remove financial barriers to participation. Learn how you can support the sustainability of this work at baay.org/support.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
