Bluebird Opening Day at Mount Baker Ski Area

We are proud to be the first ski area in Washington State to be open for the 2015-2016 season! The Mount Baker Ski Area opened yesterday, Nov. 18, with bluebird skies. The crowds lined up early to get on the chair and seek fresh tracks! The Area reported 34 inches at Heather Meadows and 63 inches on Pan Dome. We are in midweek operation today from both base areas with Chairs 2,3,4,5,6,7 and 8 operating and regular, midweek lift ticket rates in effect.  The forecast is for more clear and cold weather, so it should be a beautiful few days on the mountain.  " MountBakerOpeningDayShuksan The Area assures that "The White Salmon and Raven Hut lodges will have full service, and Heather Meadows lodge will have limited menu and no tap room (but don't worry, the taproom will open on the weekend!). And there will be plenty of Washington and local beers on tap at the Raven and White Salmon." MountBakerOpeningDaycheers If you are new to the sport, you can get hooked up and on the right track. The Area is there to help, "All lessons and standard rental are out of Heather Meadows today. Lessons will be at 9:00, 11:30, and 1:30 daily. Premium rentals are available out of White Salmon.   Variable snow base conditions exist. Use extra caution because early season snow conditions means it possible there may be creeks, rocks, sticks, sudden variations in the terrain and other obstacles on or near the areas open for skiing and riding." Photography Courtesy: Facebook/Mount Baker Ski Area Special Note: The rain-swollen Nooksack River eroded the bank below the highway and exposed 90 feet of guardrail posts along the eastbound lane. So the state Department of Transportation closed that lane near milepost 39, about six miles east of Glacier, on Tuesday Nov. 17, as a safety precaution while preparing an emergency fix.
