Bellingham’s Most Romantic Cocktail Bars

Consider yourself warned: this post is for the romantics out there who unapologetically enjoy Valentines Day. It's also for those lovebirds who would rather have a handcrafted cocktail than a stuffed gorilla that says, “I love you” when you squeeze his foot. And so, to help you plan a romantic night out, we've compiled a list of Bellingham's most romantic bars. Now you’ll know exactly where to treat your bestie to a bevvy—and get mad, starry-eyed props in return!

Nestled in Hotel Leo in Downtown Bellingham, this Prohibition-era bar offers relaxed drinks and food in a classy, romantic space that's open to all. Unwind with a late night cocktail (the bar is open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays) or come early for happy hour specials, including discounted high balls, cocktails, food, and beer.

This deco-era cocktail bar takes the craft of cocktail-making to a whole new level. Located in downtown Fairhaven Village, Galloway's offers delicious, award-winning cocktails along with sophisticated small bites. Snuggle up into a booth inside or enjoy a romantic date-night on their covered, heated outdoor patio.

No romantic Bellingham cocktail roundup would be complete without mention of The Black Cat. Also known as Le Chat Noir, this French-inspired bistro has been serving spirits in Fairhaven Village since 1987 from its third-floor perch in the Sycamore Building. Low lights and a full menu make Black Cat a great date spot.

Share an order of Petit Fondue, order a Cat Scratch Lemonade (jalapeño vodka, basil, lemon, simple, sierra mist, soda), and gaze out the windows over historic Fairhaven. Over three decades later, Le Chat Noir is still the cat’s meow.

Northern Italian fare meets the Pacific Northwest at this newly revamped--and always romantic--wine bar in Ferndale, WA. Their menu features authentic Italian dishes sure to please, but Leader Block is most known for their award-winning list of wines sourced from Italy and the Pacific Northwest. Buy a bottle and settle into a charming night out with your beau.

Located in the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, B-Town delivers delicious small plates perfect for sharing with that special someone. Their martinis, in flavors like Washington raspberry and gummi bear, are certain to boost your mood and put hearts in your eyes.

Want a little more ambiance? If it's not too cold, snuggle up in B-Town's heated outdoor patio and enjoy your drinks by the fire.

Located at Semiahmoo Resort on spectacular Semiahmoo Spit, Packers Kitchen + Bar is a romantic destination for drinks and dinner any time of year. Extend the evening by booking a room at Semiahmoo Resort, where you can also treat your significant other to a decadent spa treatment.

Named among the 50 Best New Restaurants in America by Esquire in 2023, Bistro Estelle is a great place to enjoy a meal out with your significant other on or around Valentine's Day. Located in Fairhaven Village, Estelle offers romantic ambiance paired with delectable dishes. Reservations are highly encouraged.

JACK'S BAR

Step back in time with your boo at Jack's bar in Downtown Bellingham. One of Bellingham's only speakeasies, the bar features curved leather booths perfect for an intimate Valentine's Day drink. Order from a list of classic cocktails, swill a glass of wine, or down a PNW beer. The bar also has a heated outdoor area if the indoor bar is busy.

REDLIGHT KITCHEN & BAR

This cocktail bar and restaurant in Downtown Bellingham is a date-night favorite and a great place to end up on Valentine's Day. Ambiance and crowd-pleasing cocktails ensure a night to remember. They also offer delicious Asian-inspired menu featuring wontons, rice bowls, noodle dishes, and bao.

SOUTHSIDE BAR

With an authentically local flair, Southside is a staple in the Fairhaven cocktail scene. Sister bar to Jack’s in downtown Bellingham, Southside offers a cozy vibe and simple, straightforward cocktail list. Both bars were born from the ashes of Daphne’s, a former Fairhaven favorite where you could get your “prescription” filled by the “pharmacist” behind the bar. Southside tips a hat to that cheeky tradition with prescription records hanging from one wall, alongside a black and white photo of a Fairhaven pharmacist. Sit inside at the oversized booths or enjoy your drink outside on Southside’s welcoming patio. You’ll find a few beers on tap, but classic cocktails are the focus here. Think French 75, Manhattan, Old Fashioned, and more. Plus, they have sophisticated small bites like a baked brie and apples board.

THE TEMPLE BAR

This beloved cocktail bar in Downtown Bellingham is an ideal spot for any date night, but is certain to please on Valentine's Day. Enjoy fine wine, craft cocktails, and delicious small plates, all in an atmosphere made for love. Enjoy your date indoors or on the bar's heated and covered outdoor patio. When you're done, walk to nearby Pickford Film Center for a movie or Mount Baker Theatre for a show.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
