Catherine Hardwicke, the trailblazing filmmaker behind acclaimed works such as Thirteen, Twilight, and Miss You Already, will visit Bellingham for an exclusive evening of insights, inspiration, and cinematic magic at the CASCADIA International Women’s Film Festival. The event promises an intimate exploration of her remarkable journey in the world of independent cinema.
"An Evening with Catherine Hardwicke” will take place Friday, April 26 at 7pm at Mount Baker Theatre’s Walton Theatre (104 N. Commercial Ave., Bellingham).
Catherine Hardwicke’s career has been nothing short of extraordinary. From her groundbreaking debut with Thirteen to the global phenomenon of Twilight, she has consistently pushed boundaries. Her verité lens captures raw emotions, teenage angst, and powerful narratives that resonate with audiences worldwide. As an outspoken champion for women in film, she shares her honest experiences as a female director in an effort to highlight inequalities in the industry and help to enact change.
During “An Evening with Director Catherine Hardwicke,” audiences can hear the stories behind the scenes from Hardwicke’s illustrious career, brought to life with clips from her body of work. Attendees will learn about her creative process, the art of storytelling, and the delicate balance between passion and pragmatism. The presentation will be introduced by CASCADIA Executive Director Cheryl Crooks.
A ticketed meet and greet dessert reception for Hardwicke, with cash bar, will take place immediately after the film in Mount Baker Theatre's Encore Room. General admission tickets for the presentation only, or for the combined live presentation and reception, can be purchased directly through the Mount Baker Theatre box office. Admission to the entire evening is included in this year's Festival All-Access Pass.
The following night, Saturday, April 26th at 6:30pm, the festival will host a special presentation of Miss You Already, a British romantic comedy-drama film directed by Catherine Hardwicke and written by Morwenna Banks. The film stars Toni Collette, Drew Barrymore and Dominic Cooper, and was screened in the Gala Presentations section of the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A where the audience can engage directly with Catherine Hardwicke.
In addition to these two events, the Pickford Film Center and CASCADIA will co-present a special screening of Twilight on Saturday, April 27, at 9pm at the Pickford Film Center. Tickets are required; no festival passes will be accepted.
