A Trail for All Seasons and Abilities

The Shadow of the Sentinels National Recreation Trail is a level and accessible boardwalk and paved asphalt trail that provides up-close and personal views of majestic trees, moss, lichen, and other forest flora. It is a perfect way for people of all abilities to meander through an ancient forest and see occasional sweeping views of the surrounding landscape. This no-barriers trail is welcoming for wheelchairs and strollers.

The trail is a half-mile loop, making it a short trip. Or, for a longer adventure, combine this trail with any number of other short hikes along the Baker Lake Highway.

We acknowledge that Whatcom County is located on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. They cared for the lands that included what we’d call the Puget Sound region, Vancouver Island and British Columbia since time immemorial. This gives us the great obligation and opportunity to learn how to care for our surrounding areas and all the natural and human resources we require to live. We express our deepest respect and gratitude for our indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
