Bellingham Yacht Club-Labor Day Weekend 2023
Competitive sailors from Olympia to British Columbia are coming to the city of subdued excitement for Bellingham Yacht Club’s annual PITCH racing event and festivities.
“PITCH is North Sound’s signature regatta of the whole season and BYC is honored to host this event for the 49th time,” said John Stockless, Bellingham Yacht Club’s Sail Fleet Captain. “The PITCH motto ‘Come for the wind, stay for the party!' captures both how competitive our races are while also celebrating our many old and new friendships,” he added.
Fleet Captain David Marod explained, “BYC manages the competition in accordance with US Sailing and PHRF rules, is a Grand Prix qualifying race as well being a 48North Top 25 ranking event. BYC is proud to run the regatta at this level of qualifying standards and we are already planning the PITCH 50thcelebration for 2024,” he said.
Competitors start arriving Friday, September 2. Races will run Labor Day weekend on Saturday and Sunday. Friday and Saturday night parties include food and a no host bar and the Saturday musical guest, the Three Radicals, will entertain. All Bellingham Yacht Club members are welcomed to join the celebrations.
Started in 1974, PITCH is one of the oldest regattas in the North Sound and stands for Pacific International Tonnage Championships, predating PHRF. For information about the race and to register go to https://byc.org/pitch.
